Aidan’s New Ute

Aidan had been an electrician for five years before he was given his own work car. Before that, he was using his own car, a small run-down car that isn’t even worth mentioning. Aidan often felt embarrassed driving his car around and the people he dealt with looked down on him. ‘How could an electrician drive something like that?’ ‘Was he even qualified?’ people would ask themselves. When he would arrive at a house to service the lights or do any sort of electrical work, people would second guess themselves for hiring his company and try to retract his entry into their homes.

Aidan, being the kind and fun-loving person that he is, took this with a grain of salt and made the best of the situation. He ended up befriending everyone he met, worked with, or worked for and did a good job of easing their suspicions on whether or not he was in fact a real electrician.

On the day Aidan’s bosses let him know that they would be buying him a brand new car and installing 4×4 aluminium canopies on it for him as a work gift, he was over the moon. He couldn’t believe it and his bosses could clearly see that he had tears in his eyes, despite being polite enough not to say anything. Anyone who knew Aidan could only imagine how difficult it was to go to work every day and have people question his authority. It was often the talking point at family Christmas parties and it hurt Aidan, although he never dared say it.

Aidan has now had his car with its Melbourne-installed ute toolbox for two years. He hasn’t had trouble with people questioning his authority at all since and that has made it a lot easier for him to go to work each day.

Nowadays, Aidan enjoys driving to work each day and revels in the fact that he has a safe space to store his tools.
