Expert Glass Designs

I wish I was a window expert. It’s a bit of an odd career; but I just want to be able to say that “I build windows” when someone asks. It would be a really cool job because it’s niche, and it pays well, and I’m sure it’s fun. When my high school class visited country Victoria for a day trip, we came across an old store specialising in glass blowing. We all got a chance to try, but I was so naturally adept at working with glass that everyone was in awe. For some reason after that, instead of training to become a glass expert and spending     my days offering office glass tinting for businesses, I decided to become an accountant and bore my brains out.

If I had gone into glass building, stained glass windows would have been my favourite. The process of creating stained glass is slightly more complicated than that of regular glass, which means it takes longer and is more costly. I would have loved the challenge and the ability to express myself creatively. The act of staining glass with different colours would have been so liberating.

Sometimes I like to imagine myself doing projects for clients. In my most recent daydream, the client asked for a dual stained-glass design and window frosting for Melbourne offices located in the CBD. In my dream, putting decorative glass in the CBD has a whole host of complications due to the building codes and regulations imposed on taller buildings, but I feel very confident I’ll be able to do it. My client wants a design of their logo, a blue bird with fluffy white wings, as well as a background landscape with inspirational messages woven through the grass and sky. Seems complicated, right? Well, when you’re dreaming about scenarios like this, it’s a breeze. I did such a good job with the project.
