Contemporary Office Design

I just got an email that I’ve been dreading for about six months now. I was hoping to never get this email and sadly, here it is. My boss has just finished renovating our office and wants us all to come back now that it’s safe to do so. I absolutely do not want to go back into the office full time. I’d be happy to compromise and go in on one, MAYBE, two days a week, but nothing more.

I’ve got it so good at home, that I won’t be swayed by a new and contemporary Melbourne office design. I’d prefer to work in my home office and get to sleep an extra two hours every day, and still have more time in my day after work. I just can’t go back to a life in the office. Yeah, it would be cool to have really premium office facilities, and I don’t doubt that the person who did the office design and installed the fitouts did a great job, but it’s just not what I’m after anymore.

I’d seriously prefer to take a pay cut than have to go to the office full time. I’m already saving so much money on transport, lunches and petrol. I now make all my lunches at home during my break and don’t have to drive to the station or top up my train pass daily. Those things actually really add up. I don’t want to give up these luxuries.

So my boss’ email, while not a shock, has made me extremely sad. He attached pictures of the commercial fitouts. Melbourne business owners love competing with each other, so alongside those pictures, he also attached pictures of other office spaces in our industry. He was right as well. Our office space is clearly a step above anyone else’s and it’s impressive, but it’s not enough to make me want to come back.
