School Eye Check

Last week, I took my daughter for her first eye check-up as she started grade prep. I understood the significance of perfect vision for her academic success, as I recalled my own experiences when an optometrist visited my primary school every year. We’d line up in pairs and enter the sports hall, where partitions separated those being tested from the rest. I distinctly remember the moment a stern-faced woman examined my eyes behind the curtain, shining a bright light into my pupils.

With schools no longer offering such services, I chose to take my daughter to a well-regarded Bayside optometry clinic. Apart from its convenient location, it’s renowned as one of the best in Melbourne, and surprisingly affordable too. My daughter was brimming with excitement, in contrast to my feelings during childhood optometry visits. Her curiosity and enthusiasm during the testing made me wonder if she might have a future in optometry!

Opting for a specialised children’s optometrist was a wise decision. The optometrist’s gentle and calm demeanour immediately put us at ease. She explained that my daughter would need glasses and took us to choose a frame that suits her face. Thankfully, her prescription is low for now. Although her vision is generally fine, wearing glasses while reading could enhance her academic performance. In the end, she selected a charming pair of square frames, and I can’t wait to share pictures on my social media!

Having such a positive experience at the clinic reassured me about my daughter’s vision care. The optometrist’s expertise and care left us confident in her recommendations. As a parent, seeing my daughter’s excitement and ease during the process made me grateful for the attentive and child-friendly approach of the clinic.

I am relieved that we addressed her vision needs early on, which will undoubtedly contribute to her learning journey. With her new glasses, I have no doubt she’ll flourish in her studies and beyond. The clinic has become a valuable partner in safeguarding my daughter’s visual health, and I highly recommend their services to other parents in the area.
